When I talk about Performance Eyewear, Smith is almost always included in the conversation. They have a long history of making quality products for everyone from casual wearers to skier. There are few activities you could name that Smith doesn't make eyewear for.
Lifestyle:
The Lowdown 2 is one of the most well balanced frames you could get. The frame is designed in such a way that it's suitable for everyday "casual" wear, but the ChromaPop lenses give you the color enhancing features you would expect from their sport performance glasses.
I've worn these commuting, hiking Muir Woods and for date nights with my wife; I have yet to find a situations where I found the Lowdown 2 to be lacking.
The Frames:
One of the first things you'll notice about the Lowdown 2 is how lightweight it is. They are made using the Evolve Eco-Friendly plastic (they use partially recycled materials) and the only metal I can see are the screws used on the hinges.
You may or may not notice the Magol nose pads that are built right into the bridge but the rubber-like material helps keeps the frames in place whether you're driving or hiking on a hot day.
The Fit:
Smith lists the Lowdown 2 as a Medium fit but I can confirm that it fits perfectly on my large head. They don't have spring hinges and I never felt like the frame was too tight.
The matte black finish feels smooth to the touch and the auto-lock hinges keep the temples in their place.

The Lenses:
ChromaPop is a lens technology that is unique to Smith. A single ChromaPop lens can have up to 9 layers! Anti-Scratch, Oleophobic, Hydrophobic, Anti-Glare, Polarized and in some cases a Mirror Coating are all precisely combined to improve color definition and visual enhancement.
When I wore these glasses on a hike in Muir Woods the lenses made the already beautiful environment even more amazing to be in. The Grey/Green lenses were never too dark while in the shade and dark enough while standing in the direct sunlight.
Keep in mind that you can order the Lowdown 2 with different lens colors and types. The lenses on my particular model happen to be suitable for about 90% of my everyday activities but that may not be the case for you. I'd suggest thinking about your daily routine first and base your lens color off of that.
In Conclusion:
If you're looking for a premium lens, durable frame and a trusted manufacturing company then Smith is a great choice. You won't be short on options and their lifetime warranty is the cherry on top. Don't buy a set of sunglasses this summer without at least trying Smith glasses with ChromaPop.
